Children of Time

By: Adrian Tchaikovsky
Narrated by: Mel Hudson
Series: The Children of Time Novels, Book 1
Length: 16 hrs and 31 mins

This remains one of my favorite books, and rather than venture into something new, I found myself reaching for it once more. Although I can’t pinpoint exactly when I first read it—perhaps around 2018 or 2019 as that is when I purchased it—the impact it had on me was profound.

Revisiting the novel this time around was a different experience. It wasn’t as mind-bending as my initial read, but it was equally rewarding. Tchaikovsky’s intricate portrayal of the “Spider Silk” civilization is nothing short of masterful. There is subtle social commentary woven throughout the narrative but without being intrusive or overbearing.

I found his use of recurring names across different characters to be a clever device that enhances continuity and aids in following the complex storyline. The novel’s blend of scientific imagination and the affect of changes across time continues to resonate, making it a timeless piece that beckons for repeated exploration.
