Series: Destiny’s Crucible, Book 1
Length: 15 hrs and 44 mins
Before starting this book, I was searching for a modern version of Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.” After finishing “Cast Under an Alien Sun,” I can say that Thorensen wielded this plot device with gusto and creativity. Both books share common motivational elements that make them worth reading, evoking a sense of adventure and innovation in a pre-modern world. In Thorensen’s work, the protagonist, Yozef Kolsko, like Hank Morgan from Twain’s novel, uses his knowledge of modern science and technology to navigate and influence the society he finds himself in, creating a better world.
My familiarity with science and technology, combined with an appreciation for history, allowed me to follow the intricate patterns that Thorensen used to craft this wonderful story. The blend of strategic thinking, survival, and cultural integration kept me thoroughly engaged. Thorensen’s attention to detail in portraying the technological advancements and their impact on society adds depth to the narrative, making it not just a tale of survival but also one of progress and enlightenment. I’m hooked and excited to see how Yozef’s journey continues.
While the previous book ended on a good note, this one was a breath of fresh air.
