This was an intriguing book, filled with twists and turns. One of its most unique aspects is the use of bureaucratic plot devices, such as PowerPoint presentations and HR memos, to advance the story. These documents add realism and humor, highlighting the contrast between mundane bureaucracy and extraordinary magical events. Stephenson and Galland’s inventive approach blends science fiction, historical fantasy, and bureaucratic comedy. I enjoyed reading this, but as a diverting moment, not something that I will return to.
