This set of six books provided a compelling contrast to “Thunder Below,” which I completed a month ago. Despite the fictional nature of the main character’s submarine adventures, the author skillfully grounded the narrative in reality. With some familiarity with the subject matter from “Thunder Below,” it was fascinating to witness how a solitary fictional submarine accomplished feats reminiscent of those achieved by several submarines in the real world. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have read this book; it offered a unique perspective that seamlessly blended creativity with historical accuracy, injecting vitality into what can sometimes be historical recounting of events. It allowed me to perceive subtleties beyond the surface, serving as a captivating complement to “Thunder Below.”
