Learning War

An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa (1942-1943)
The Liberation Trilogy, Volume 1
By: Rick Atkinson
Narrated by: George Guidall
Length: 26 hrs and 5 mins

A new Army of the Americans goes to the land of North Africa to fight a war that they were reluctant to join. The tenacity of the American soldier that I grew up being aware of began forming in a place that I don’t generally associate with American combat at arms. The start was not very glorious. Poor training and leadership led to many deaths. But as time progressed, those who survived the mistakes and those who showed good leadership did arise. The Army that left North Africa was not the same army that entered. They were battle-hardened and ready for a real war, backed by the monumental economic power of the United States.
